2022 National Poster Contest Winners

The Farmers Market Coalition and Farm Aid are pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 National Farmers Market Poster Contest. After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, we’re thrilled to bring back this annual contest celebrating the creativity and diversity of America’s farmers markets by showcasing market posters on a national level. We were blown away by the submissions, which grow stronger and more dynamic each year.
This year, we received more than 100 poster entries from farmers markets across 27 states. These posters represent the individuality of their respective markets, and collectively demonstrate the bonds between communities and their local foods and farmers.

We would like to thank Farm Aid for sharing our deep commitment to farmers market, as it was a pleasure to work with an organization long dedicated to family farms and the role that they play in building strong communities.
With so many stunning submissions, the competition was fierce. But, we are happy to announce the five winners of the 2022 National Farmers Market Poster Contest, and a few staff favorite runner ups, too!
First Place: Grow Food Northampton Tuesday Market – Northampton, MA
This colorful poster features a diverse group of people with a range of ages, genders, and skin tones. Its message of inclusivity allows anyone to see themselves as part of the local food community. All of the market’s basic information is clearly listed below, allowing visitors to quickly learn where and when the market operates.
Second Place: Farm Fresh Providence Farmers Market – Providence, RI
The clarity and simplicity of this poster draw attention to the physical space of the market with noticeable visual landmarks. Members of the community are also present, and the pumpkin and larger-than-life produce above the building lend a sense of playfulness and whimsicality to this market.
Metrics Prize: Healthy By Design Gardeners’ Market – Billings, MT
The use of customer service data in Healthy By Design Gardeners’ Market allows shoppers to see how helpful this market would be to their own shopping choices. Breaking down the sales by type also appeals to neighboring businesses and to anyone seeking to become a vendor.
Best EBT/Nutrition Incentive: Holyoke Farmers Market – Holyoke, MA
Not only does this poster state that the Holyoke Farmers Market accepts SNAP, but it explains clearly and comprehensively how the SNAP program works. As a result, it maintains a welcoming and non–stigmatizing tone. Since the poster is in Spanish, it is also clearly targeted to a specific audience.
Fan Favorite: Metcalfe County Farmers Market – Edmonton, KY
The Metcalfe County Farmers Market really knows how to turn out the votes for the Fan Favorite category. Their entry received over 360 likes on Facebook!
