Announcing Discover You Can 2012!

FMC and Jarden Home Brands, makers of Ball® Brand Fresh Preserving Products, are gearing up for the 2012 season of this canning education program and want to invite your market to take part. With more than 500 canning demonstrations at last year’s participating markets, Discover You Can helped dozens of FMC members meet their educational missions. A presentation by Program Director Amber Meairs is available on FMC’s YouTube channel here.
This summer, 30 FMC-member farmers markets will be sharing the benefits of home canning with members of their community. Discover You Can will help illustrate the three simple steps of home canning through demonstrations. In addition, the program provides coupons and samples to help everyone get started turning fresh, locally grown favorites into delicious food in a jar!
Canning is a great way to support the local and slow food movements. By purchasing and preserving produce from local farmers, customers can savor the tastes and smells they love about summer for enjoyment all winter long.
Local Farmers Markets Needed – Calling All Market Managers
If you organize a farmers market in the United States and belong to the Farmers Market Coalition, click here to find out how you can apply to become a Discover Your Can participant. The program includes educational & promotional materials, Ball® Brand products, and program funding.
Applications are due April 27, 2012. Selected farmers market organizations will be announced the week of May 7, 2012. Upon selection, each Market Manager will receive a toolkit to begin planning their local in-market incentives. If you have questions, please email DiscoverYouCan@imschicago.com.
