Announcing the new Farm Direct Nutrition Incentives Guide Site
By: Mykalee McGowan Posted On: December 8, 2021
On December 6, 2021, we officially launched the new Farm Direct Nutrition Incentives Guide Site at www.farmdirectincentives.guide. The website is a comprehensive library filled with hundreds of resources for operators running Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program/Electronic Benefits Transfer and nutrition incentives through farmers markets, community supported agriculture, farm stands and mobile markets across the country.
This is a project of the Nutrition Incentive Hub and a collaborative effort between Farmers Market Coalition, Ecology Center, and Michigan Farmers Market Association along with hundreds of other organizations who contributed resources.
The Farm Direct Nutrition Incentives Guide Site gathers resources on nutrition incentives all in one database. Nutrition incentives provide extra food dollars to low income families so they can have access to more fresh produce in their diet. Through the sharing of resources, the website will help build healthy and equitable communities.
“We envision the Guide Site as a way for farm direct sites and networks to reach outside of their individual experience for community based examples and ideas,” said Rachel Ward, the Farmers Market Support Project Manager here at FMC.
The Guide Site also includes PIPER, a unique step-by-step process which stands for Plan, Implement, Promote, Evaluate, and Reiterate. PIPER provides guidance through the seasonal lifecycle of a farm direct nutrition incentive program.
During 2022, webinars and conference presentations by FMC and its partners will share how the site can be best utilized by all market operators, especially current Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program grantees as well as potential applicants to the program. Explore the experiences of a nationwide network of farm direct operators for community-based solutions at the new Farm Direct Nutrition Incentives Guide Site at www.farmdirectincentives.guide.
