2020 Call for Board Nominations
Posted On: November 14, 2019
FMC is currently soliciting nominees who are interested in running for a seat on the Board of Directors during the 2020 annual election. FMC’s volunteer Board of Directors consists of individuals with demonstrated leadership experience in the field of farmers markets or sustainable food systems, and who support the FMC mission of strengthening farmers markets for the benefit of farmers, consumers, and communities.
This year, FMC completed a strategic planning process to develop a five-year strategic plan to continue to grow FMC and its service to its members and the farmers’ market field. The Board is seeking candidates with skills in nonprofit management, legal experience, government contracting, board governance, and/or fundraising who are willing to contribute those skills to a successful implementation of the new strategic plan.
The FMC Board of Directors is a volunteer board with three-year terms. Directors are expected to commit at least 50 hours per year to governance and support FMC’s fundraising efforts. The Board generally meets via conference call eight-ten times per year, with at least one face-to-face meeting. Board members develop FMC’s policies, provide oversight, approve FMC’s budget, raise funds, and are actively involved in strategic planning. Board members commit themselves to further the priorities of the Farmers Market Coalition, which are as follows:
- Support market success by providing members with best-in-class operational tools & resources;
- Advocate for farmers markets at the national level;
- Facilitate nationwide grassroots advocacy;
- Promote the value of farmers markets to the public; and
- Facilitate peer-to-peer networking opportunities for members.

We urge you to devote some time in the next few days to think about this exciting volunteer leadership opportunity to make a difference to farmers markets nationwide.
