Mission Statement: The Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance is committed to supporting and strengthening Washington’s small family farm businesses by creating and operating vibrant, successful neighborhood farmers markets.
To meet our mission we provide effective direct sales sites for our region’s small farmers, while also educating consumers about local farm products and the importance of supporting and preserving local farmland. In addition, we have been at the forefront of advocating for low-income benefit programs to ensure equal food access.
NFMW Plans: “We will be hosting our annual Zucchini 500 Races on NFMW as well as conducting a survey of our market attendees. We will also take the opportunity to show our appreciate to our market vendors with some treats provided by the organization.”- Nina Gruber, Market Manager
About the Market: The Columbia City Farmers Market has been open since 1998, and has grown with the diverse and cohesive community around it. In the heart of historic Columbia City, this lively market features fresh products from over 40 local farms. The market averages over 2,500 shoppers a day, with many families using the park to gather and picnic on market day. Live music, special events for kids and free cooking classes are offered throughout the season, plus delicious fruits and vegetables from Washington growers each and every week.
Statistic or Market Accomplishment: Columbia City sees 25% of NFMA’s food access dollars, which we are anticipating increasing by 400% this year with progress in city-wide efforts in food access.
