Fresh Access Bucks 2nd Annual Crop-Up Event, Florida
Posted On: June 28, 2018
Year Founded: 2013
Market Season: 51 market outlets, Year-round (Variable Days)
Mission Statement: To increase access to good food for all Floridians, while supporting our state’s farmers and local economies by providing a dollar to dollar match toward Florida-grown fruits and vegetable.
Fresh Access Bucks (FAB) is a statewide incentive program designed to encourage Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) recipients to redeem their benefits at farmers markets to purchase fresh, healthy foods directly from Florida farmers. At participating FAB markets, FOG matches what a SNAP cardholder spends with FREE Fresh Access Bucks – up to $40 every market day! Customers can use them right away or later on to buy Florida grown fruits and vegetables. For example, a SNAP shopper who spends $10 of their SNAP benefits would receive an extra $10 to purchase fresh, local produce.
NFMW Event: The 2nd Annual Florida Farmers Market Crop-Up
The Fresh Access Bucks team is hosting the Second Annual Florida Farmers Market Crop Up. Each year the Fresh Access Bucks team hosts a free event to gather Florida farmers market managers; direct-to-consumer outlet operators; and food access professionals to engage, inspire and network. This year’s Crop Up will be held in Lakeland, FL during National Farmers Market Week on Tuesday, Aug 7th.
FAB Statistic or Market Accomplishment: “We’re proud to have over $938,245 in revenue generated by FAB & federal benefits on FL Grown fruits and vegetables at 51 market outlets with over SNAP 33,000 Federal Benefit Transactions (SNAP & FMNP), more than 16,350 new market shoppers, 10 markets participating with WIC/Senior FMNP and over 500 participating Florida farmers.”- Katie Delaney, FAB Co-Manager
