Year Founded: 1994

Market Season: May-October, Saturdays (8 am- 12:30 pm) Sundays (9 am- 1 pm)

State: Nebraska

NFMW Plans: “We plan to have different department of agriculture booths available at the market, an OFM photo booth, watermelon eating competition, music and more.”- Kristen Beck, Market Manager

About the Market: Omaha Farmers Market has more than 140 unique season vendors offering locally grown produce, flowers, herbs, bedding plants, meats, cheeses, breads, jams, jellies, specialty items (including crafts) and more. In addition, weekly rotating vendors ensure that shoppers will find something new with every Market visit.

OFM accepts EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) cards at its information booths and is now offering the Double Up Food Buck (DUFB) Match Program – a partnership with Nebraska Department of Agriculture and Nebraska Extension, allowing EBT users an additional $10 in matching funds to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs.

Produce from the Heart, a nonprofit organization, partners with the Omaha Farmers Market to pick up fresh produce donated by the market vendors each week. The organization then redistributes the produce and goods to community shelters and food pantries. In addition, OFM hosts an annual shelter meal at the Siena/Francis House. For this meal, market vendors donate all ingredients for a full meal and market staff serves the meal.

Statistic or Market Accomplishment: The Omaha Farmers Market in the Old Market sees 6,000 -8,000 shoppers, and in Aksarben Village we see nearly 8,000-10,000 shoppers weekly.
