Posted On: November 8, 2018
Dear FMC virtual market-goer,
Greetings from the Swarthmore Farmers Market! We are taking over FMC’s Instagram for the duration of two weeks to share with you a look into our market. Our market is loved by our community and for good reason! As a new “visitor” at our market, there are a few things you ought to know to fully appreciate the market that surrounds you.
We have a very strong market and we want to share more information about the market we love with your followers who are dedicated to strengthening markets across America. The Swarthmore Farmers Market was created to be THE Saturday morning food, art, and community gathering destination for people from Swarthmore and surrounding communities. We connect the community with local farmers and food artisans in a mutually beneficial way. By supporting the sale of a variety of fresh, locally grown food as well as hand crafted items sourced from local ingredients, we enhance the quality of life in and around Swarthmore and contribute to a vibrant and thriving town center. Our aim is to support the health and well-being of residents and promote a robust regional food system to better ensure access to fresh food for everyone!
We have 30 markets per year and each is unique to the one before. We have a core group of farmers who are constantly bringing new food each week. We also have food and drink artisans, plus crafts people, musicians, and community groups that rotate each week in order to give our visitors exposure to many options of great food, entertainment and social interaction. At our market you can enjoy an enticing variety of locally made and locally grown food, such as:
• Fresh fruit, vegetable, and mushrooms • Irresistible sweet and savory baked goods • Locally made chocolates and honey • Humanely-raised meats • Decadent sorbetto & natural ice pops • Locally roasted coffee by the cup and by the bag • Artisanal spirits, wines, beers and ciders • Handmade seasonal soups • Organic sauces and preserves • Authentic pierogis • Mexican delicacies • African delicacies • Authentic French crepes and Belgian Liege Waffles • Wonderful food from Philly-area food trucks and local restaurants Plus… Locally made bath products, fresh flowers, art and craft items from local artists, live music, activities for kids, special community and healthy living events and more!
The market is proud to accept SNAP (EBT/ACCESS) payments, along with Food Bucks, an amazing program from The Food Trust that allows SNAP customers to get $2 in Food Bucks to spend on fruits and vegetables for every $5 in SNAP purchases. We are also delighted to accept WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) vouchers, which provide WIC recipients and low-income seniors with fresh, nutritious, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs from approved farmers in Pennsylvania. Our goal is to increase food access for all and we are tirelessly working to make this a reality every week. Our patrons support our mission and in 2016 we were voted #1 in PA in the American Farmland Trust’s Farmers Market Celebration. WE look forward to sharing more about our mission, our vendors and our community in the next two weeks.
We are so excited to take over FMC’s Instagram account because we love sharing with others why we love our market. We have an excellent customer, dedicated farmers, unique food and drink artisans, talented artists and musicians and a strong community that makes every week special.
We hope what we share transports you to our market and makes you feel truly welcome!
