WIC FMNP Advocacy Update Summer 2021
Posted On: June 23, 2021
Earlier this year, the Farmers Market Coalition called on our members and broader farmers market community to ask their Members of Congress to sign on in support of an increase in funding to the WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). Thanks to those advocacy efforts, “Dear Colleague Letters” in both the House and Senate resulted in a large number of sign ons.
In addition, the recently released Presidential Budget proposes an increase in funding for the program to $24 million. This news represents a stark departure from the previous administration which proposed eliminating funding for the program in each of its budget proposals. While the appropriations process is not complete, these developments provide reason to be optimistic about an increase in funding for the program.
